The
MoonCup is an environmentally safe and non-toxic healthy choice
in feminine hygiene protection.
Have
you considered that...
...with
average usage, each woman using tampons disposes of 20,000 during
her years of menstruating? That's eight tampons per day/night...
throughout a period of five days... per month… for 40 years.
Sanitary
pads represent a similar usage and disposal, and all 'disposable'
products have many 'not so disposable' parts. MoonCup is not associated
with this unnecessary and avoidable planetary pollution! Our hope
is that women will read, talk about and use the environmentally
friendly MoonCup.
Why...?
...because reduced
demand for the less environmentally friendly products, like tampons
and pads, ultimately curbs production, and disposal of them, thus
the collective contribution of millions of women worldwide makes
a difference.
Another
concern for consideration...
...non-biodegradable materials such as Polypropylene and Polyethylene,
(used to make the non-woven covering on panty pads), Polyacrylate
gels, (which add the 'super absorbency' factor to ultra thin pads
and liners), plastic wrappers, applicators, backing strips, etc.
contribute to environmental pollution on an alarming scale.
Consider that more than half the global population is female,
and many are using tampons and pads... all of their cast-offs
remain indefinitely, polluting our environment in land fills,
drains, septic tanks, rivers and the oceans. Many of these components
are derivatives of petrochemicals; their manufacture contributes
to the spiraling depletion of our planet’s fossil fuel resources.
The MoonCup is an environmentally friendly choice for feminine
hygiene protection, and your personal environmental effort is
part of a ‘global group' effort.
Millions
of people who care and are environmentally and socially aware
contribute daily, for the love and continued health of our planet
- your disuse of products that represent misuse of this planet
and its resources makes a positive difference.
More
reasons to use the MoonCup…
...the most common ingredients used to make tampons are Rayon
& Cotton. During the manufacturing process of rayon, (a derivative
of wood pulp), manufacturers often use chlorine gas for bleaching.
This bleaching process creates Dioxin residue - one of the most
toxic chemicals on earth. It can’t be destroyed or broken
down, and its' toxicity accumulates in the location of manufacture
and poses a threat to animal, plant and human life forms.
See
the 'Health' page for more related implications...
The
MoonCup is produced by combining three of the most common elements
on earth. Carbon, hydrogen and silicon - the second most abundant
element in the earths crust, found in sand. Together, these three
elements create silicone.
This
particular silicone is of the same bio-compatible (body friendly)
standard that has been successfully used for more than fifty years
in medical applications such as heart valve replacements and joint
prosthesis. It has also been extensively tested and approved in
laboratories and clinical studies. This soft, flexible, smooth
silicone is easy to clean during the days of use,
By rinsing with water or wiping with toilet paper or a suitable
‘wet wipe’, between removal and reinsertion. To sterilize
before storage between cycles simply submerge in boiling water
or a sterilizing solution of your choice. This easy care is all
it takes to get ten years of use out of one MoonCup.
