"Why
haven’t I heard of the MoonCup before?"
Having more financial backing and a higher public profile doesn’t
make a product better for you. It does help to make it globally
known! There has been a monopoly in the feminine hygiene product
sector for so long, we almost use products such as tampons or pads
without consideration, regardless of their cost, simply accepting
that we 'need' to use something! Although the MoonCup is a lesser-known
product than most others, we know from the women who use it (and
recommend it to women in their network of friends family and colleagues!)
that it is the better option.
"What
does it look like?"
The MoonCup looks a bit like the cartoon character that appears
on this site, just without the eyes and hands!
"How do you use it?"
The MoonCup is used internally like a tampon.
"What
does it do?"
The MoonCup collects and contains your flow within the bell shaped
cup.
"How
long can the MoonCup stay in place?"
The MoonCup can be left in place inside the vagina for up to twelve
hours, for example overnight. Each user quickly becomes familiar
with the rate of her”flow” and will sense how long to
leave the MoonCup in place between insertion and removal.
"Will
I be able to feel the MoonCup when I am using it?"
No, when the MoonCup is correctly positioned you will not feel it.
"Can
I have sexual intercourse when the MoonCup is inside me?"
No, you would find that out pretty quickly that your partner would
meet the little stalk on the bottom of the cup! The MoonCup is in
no respect a contraceptive device - it is a menstrual cup.
"How
will I know how to insert and remove the MoonCup?"
The MoonCup comes with a clearly explained set of instructions for
use, insertion, removal and general care.
"Reusing
the MoonCup seems a bit off putting, I am used to disposable products..."
The MoonCup is totally hygienic made of medically approved material
designed for use in the inner body. Another application for the
same material as used to make MoonCups is heart valve replacements,
they are in constant contact with blood. The MoonCup should be washed
between removal and re-insertion and sterilized before storing in
the cotton carrying pouch ready for next months use. The MoonCup
is re-useable so you only dispose of the menstrual flow by flushing
it down the toilet, rinsing lighter flow down the sink or shower
tray. Each woman finds her own clean and easy disposal method appropriate
to her lifestyle. Washing away the contents and re-using the MoonCup
helps to reduce the environmental waste disposal concern.

the MoonCup messy to use?"
No the MoonCup is not messy to use because the flow is
contained in the center of the MoonCup, there is no need to expect
a mess when handling and removing the MoonCup. You will be holding
the bottom of the outside of the MoonCup. The menstrual flow is
on the inside.
"What
is the MoonCup made from?"
The MoonCup is made of a medically approved, soft, flexible, natural
compound creating a durable bonded silicone material.

"How
can I contact women who use the MoonCup to find out their opinions?"
You need the tips and first hand experience written by women who
use the MoonCup! These women were asked to share their experiences
openly and honestly. We are happy to make public whatever they say,
like... their initial concerns about 'whether they would get on
with the MoonCup' their personal discoveries, user tips, and their
overall opinions. We asked them to 'tell it as it is' the good,
the bad and the ugly... this page will grow as new MoonCup users
find the time to send in their feed back.

"What
if I have difficulty positioning the MoonCup, how do I get it back
down if it goes too far inside?"
Relax, don’t worry - they work just fine... you wont
lose the MoonCup! MoonCups are best-inserted wet as this provides
natural lubrication for easier entry. It keeps the process clean
and helps to cool you down if you do happen to need a couple of
attempts to get the positioning right. Inserting and removing the
MoonCup is not uncomfortable.
"When
is a good time to try the MoonCup for the first time?"
It seems a good idea while you are 'new' to using the MoonCup and
if you feel unsure of the reliability of the MoonCup to start using
it after the heaviest days of your period have passed. Maybe day
two or three of your cycle? By starting on a day with lighter flow
you will probably feel less daunted by the imagined 'mess' that
you will discover is not as you had imagined. Seeing is believing.
To see for yourself you need to have a go - sorry, we can’t
do it for you!
Really the only way to get used to the MoonCup is to use it, when
ever you feel relaxed and ready to have a go. Read the instruction
leaflet, read the testimonials or ask women
who you know that use a MoonCup, what they do… anytime that
you feel confident is a good time to start. It is never a good idea
to stress yourself if you feel rushed, tired, ill or in any way
emotionally wobbly. Wait - the right day will come! Keep the MoonCup
handy in the bathroom so that you can try it out on a weekend, a
day off or during a holiday.
"How
will I know when the MoonCup is correctly in place?"
You will know that you have positioned the MoonCup just right for
you when you can stand up and sit down, cross your legs, etc and
not feel that it is there!
"How
often will I need to remove and empty the MoonCup?"
At first you find you do this every time you go to the bathroom,
or as frequently as you would previously have changed tampons. The
MoonCup is designed to contain 1fl oz. As the average female has
a flow capacity of 3 fl oz per cycle you can see that spread over
a few days, this doesn’t amount to a trip to the bathroom
more often than you would go to change a tampon. You will need to
make less visits as you see the pattern, and volume of your flow.
For example day one may be heavier for you than day three, but for
each of us have our own pattern.
"How
will I know if the MoonCup is suitable for me?"
The MoonCup is suitable for women of all ages who menstruate, including
women with laytex allergy, and for women who have I.U.D’s
fitted. If your gynecologist understands fully what a MoonCup is
and has reservations about it’s suitability for you, that
would need addressing directly with the gynecologist. |
